Baby’s Day Out (1994)

Baby's Day Out

Baby’s Day Out follows an active toddlers adventure through downtown Chicago after getting kidnapped by 3 terribly inept criminals.

Pros: The physical comedy displayed by the klutzy kidnappers is amusing and reminiscent of a modern day Three Stooges. What works best though is the playful score. A reassuring melody that confirms everything is going to be okay.

Cons: A basic and predictable plot hold this movie back. The character’s are all one note: The kidnappers are evil, The parents are loving, and the baby is well, a baby. The stakes are nonexistent, even when situations should lead to certain death. In that sense, it’s very much like a cartoon that overstays it’s welcome all too quickly.

I give Baby’s Day Out a C. It’s a silly kids movie through and through, but if you can shut your brain off for an hour and a half, you might find some moments to chuckle at. Happy Watching!
