Megaquarium is a management tycoon game where you’re put in charge of, you guessed it, an aquarium! The game consists of 10 levels and a sandbox mode to let your creativity run wild! Let’s consider the pros and cons of Megaquarium…
Pros: Firstly, the campaign serves as a tutorial and is extremely helpful for new and returning players. Each of the 10 scenarios build upon each other until you’re officially a bona fide aquarium tycoon! Secondly, the upbeat soundtrack is catchy and not too distracting. In fact, I think it does a wonderful job setting the happy-go-lucky tone for this game. Lastly, as with most tycoon games, the replay value is undeniable. I like the idea of being able to use creativity to complete the same game in different ways. And with Megaquarium, whether you’re in sandbox mode or a campaign scenario, the possibilities are endless!
Cons: Although there are pretty visuals in this game, the graphics won’t blow you away. It’s easy for me to overlook this flaw however, because my main draw to this game is its strategic elements. My only other negative is the user interface which is complex and can sometimes blend into the background. The campaign helps familiarize you with the many interface options, but even so, it’s easy to become overwhelmed quickly when your fish are hungry, your staff isn’t doing their job and/or you can’t find the items you’re looking for. Keep calm and remember, the interface has a search feature and you can pause the game at any time.
I give Megaquarium a solid A! If you’re a fan of management sims or tycoon builders, this game is for you! Get creative and build the best aquarium you can! Happy Gaming!
