9. Breakthrough

Breakthrough is another story about a mom and her unyielding love for her adopted son. After a tragic accident leaves her son in a coma, her belief in a higher power gets her through the impossible situation. It’s not a movie for everyone, but if you’re from a religious household, this is a powerful true story.

8. The Blind Side
The Blind Side is true story about a caring woman who rescues a homeless child and helps him fulfill his potential. The child, Michael Oher, overcomes countless obstacles and later becomes a first-round NFL draft pick! Not only is this an inspirational sports movie to watch on Mother’s Day, but Sandra Bullock gives an Oscar winning performance!
Rating: PG-13 ///// Length: 2h 9min

7. Incredibles 2

The Incredibles deserves a mention simply because of how badass Elastigirl is! Either movie in the franchise is evidence of this, but the second in particular shows us how cool moms can be! This is an empowering Disney superhero flick that is full of laughs and heart!
Rating: PG ///// Length: 1h 58min
6. Moxie
Moxie is a relatable coming of age story about a shy teenager who is inspired by her mom to start a feminist club at school. This is a great Mother’s Day movie because it shows how much we take after our parents. It also has a positive message about finding your passion and standing up for it!
Rating: PG-13 ///// Length: 1h 51min

5. 13 Going on 30

13 Going on 30 has a ridiculous premise, but there’s still plenty for moms to like! After a teenager grows up over night, she quickly learns how much can change after skipping over her formative years. There’s a nice scene where Jenna goes back to her parent’s and cries her eyes out. It’s a touching moment that shows how important our parents are to us, no matter how 30, flirty and thriving we think we are.
Rating: PG-13 ///// Length: 1h 38min
4. Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine is a comedy about an emotionally bankrupt family who takes a cross-country trip for their young daughter’s beauty pageant. The characters are hilariously eccentric, but they also have a lot of heart. This endearing story will help you appreciate your own family’s situation and leave you with a big smile!
Rating: R ///// Length: 1h 41min

3. The Parent Trap

This movie will likely appear on my inevitable Father’s Day Movies post because of how universally loved it is. The story follows a pair of twins who meet for the first time at summer camp. After deducing that their parents used to be together, they devise a clever scheme to trade places and ultimately get their parents back together. Perhaps this isn’t the best choice for a recent divorcee, but whether you watch the Haley Mills or Lindsay Lohan version, both movies hit the right notes.
Rating: PG ///// Length: 2h 9min
2. Freaky Friday
The Parent Trap isn’t the only movie on this list that involves trading places. Freaky Friday offers a different twist on the idea and the result is quirky fun! Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play mother and daughter, only to be magically body swapped one night, forcing both to walk a mile in each other’s shoes.
Rating: PG ///// Length: 1h 37min

1. Lady Bird

Lady Bird is a critically acclaimed movie that follows a girl, eager for college, and her turbulent relationship with her mom. And although it is a complicated relationship filled with passive-aggressiveness, there are also moments of warmness and understanding. It’s a charming story that will speak to anyone who went through a rebellious phase in high school.
Rating: R ///// Length 1h 34min
Well there you have it! These are a few of my favorite movies to watch with my mom! As I’m sure you can tell, my criteria for “Mother’s Day” movies is pretty wide. This is because my mother helped shape my love for movies and narrowing this list down to only PG family films would not do her justice. Moms, dads, and everyone in-between have the ability to enjoy a wide range of movies, and I wanted to make that clear with this list. With that being said, these are my Top 10 Movies to Watch on Mother’s Day! I hope this list will help you choose a movie to watch with your mom, or at least remind you of her in some way. Happy Watching!
