Pokémon Snap released on the Nintendo Switch last week and fans of the franchise will be pleasantly surprised! Not only will players experience nostalgia for the Nintendo 64 game, but they can also expect updated graphics and Pokémon too! Let’s consider the pros and cons of Pokémon Snap…
Pros: Firstly, this game is rated E for everyone, which means it’s wholesome fun for the whole family! Secondly, you don’t have to know anything about Pokémon in order to appreciate the gameplay. You’re dropped into one of several levels and tasked with “snapping” the most engaging photos of the wildlife. At the end of each level your photos are graded based on several factors, including pose, size and direction of the Pokémon. Once you get a feel for the grading scale, you’ll be eager to try and try again for more points! The gameplay is also rewarding because as your level increases, the Pokémon become increasingly comfortable around you, leading to better photos!
Cons: Although this game is loads of fun, the plot is very basic. And after spending 10 hours coasting through each level multiple times, there isn’t much compelling me to return to it. However, I do recognize that your experience may be completely opposite from mine. I don’t have a strong attachment to this newer generation of Pokémon, so younger audiences might have much more to cling to. Overall though, I love the idea of this game. It gives fans a different perspective on their beloved Pokémon, and opens up the franchise to a much larger audience!
I give Pokémon Snap a B+. It’s a simple game, but it’s executed perfectly. If you’re a fan of the original, this updated version is definitely worth your time. Happy Gaming!
