RollerCoaster Tycoon is a simulation game that tasks players with building and managing their very own amusement parks! The original game came out in 1999, but has since been expanded and remastered several times over. Let’s consider the pros and cons of RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic…
Pros: Firstly, the “Classic” version of RCT has a few key features that improve upon the already great original game. For instance, paths are much easier to place, whether they need to be parallel with other walkways or separated by fences. These features were added to make the game mobile friendly, which is how RCT Classic was originally released. Since then, the game has been (almost) seamlessly ported over to PC, and it contains all the thrills from RCT and RCT2. Secondly, the replay value of this game is second to none. Whether you want to put a new twist on an already completed scenario, or try your hand in a more difficult level, there’s plenty of game to go around!
Cons: Although RCT Classic is the epitome of what a great mobile game app can be, I wouldn’t recommend it on anything smaller than an iPad. Trying to select tiny windows on a 5″ phone screen is maddening to say the least. Secondly, I’ve also noticed in my 50+ hours of game time on PC, that there are a few bugs. Specifically how using the scenery hotkey places an irremovable tree outline in your park. There are ways to circumvent this bug, but it’s unfortunate it exists at all. Hopefully a patch will address this issue soon.
I give RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic an A! I’ll admit that I’m biased, because the original RollerCoaster Tycoon is a perfect game in my opinion. I have intense nostalgia for it, and appreciate the influence it still has over which games I decide to play. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Happy Gaming!
