A Quiet Place Part II (2020)

A Quiet Place Part II is the follow up to John Krasinski’s breakout horror hit: A Quiet Place. The sequel not only shows us how the Abbott family wields their newly acquired weapon, but it also gives us a glimpse at Day 1 of the monster’s arrival! Let’s consider the pros and cons of A Quiet Place Part II…

Pros: Firstly, Cillian Murphy is a fantastic addition to this small cast! There’s a lot of mystery surrounding his character, which is definitely underexplored, but he sells the terror of the situation easily. Along with great acting is the creepy creature design and flawless CGI. The filmmakers show extreme confidence by going for daytime scares and shining a light on their creation, and it pays off. Being able to see the monster doesn’t detract from the dread or horror at all. If anything, it adds to it!

Cons: Whether it be intentional or not, this movie feels like a setup for an eventual Part III. The ending is incomplete, with no reunion or happily ever after. And there are still many unanswered questions involving Cillian’s character and the highly organized group of diseased people who almost get everyone killed. The existence of such groups of people is hinted at early on, but their presence feels shoehorned in to give the main characters another life threatening obstacle to overcome. Most of my issues with the plot stem from this feeling like a filler movie, as opposed to a sequel that can fully stand on it’s own.

I give A Quiet Place Part II a B+. It’s missing the shock value and wow factor from Part I, but it delivers an exciting story nonetheless! Overall, it’s a thrilling creature feature and a worthy sequel that you should check out! Happy Watching!
