Zack Snyder’s Justice League has finally hit our screens and the generally positive reviews are flowing in! The movie is split into 7 parts, following the formation of the Justice League and Steppenwolf’s evil plot to destroy the world. Let’s consider the pros and cons of Zack Snyder’s Justice League…
Pros: Although the action relies heavily on CGI, I like how it also cements the comic book tone of this movie. Too often do superhero flicks limit themselves by trying to fit into our real world. If superheroes did exist, their movement and abilities would look cartoonish to us, and I think Snyder does a good job thinking outside the box in this case. And while I have criticized Snyder’s overuse of slow motion, the slowed scenes with the Flash are some of the most visually stunning moments in the film!
Cons: I’m sorry, but this movie doesn’t need to be over 3 and a half hours long without credits. I understand wanting to revel in cool moments, but this movie’s daunting length makes it a chore to get through. Secondly, the CGI is lacking in some areas, namely with Cyborg and a few other characters who feel photoshopped into scenes without any rhyme or reason. I don’t know the logistics of getting actors back to film extra scenes for this cut, but I assume that has something to do with it. Lastly, while the majority of the footage is new, the story is certainly not. The plot still focuses on the Mother Box McGuffins and the superhero game of tug-of-war. The action is great, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not sure this story warrants another feature length film.
I give Zack Snyder’s Justice League a B+. It’s a clear improvement from the Justice League released 4 years ago, but whether it serves to “Restore the SnyderVerse” remains to be seen. Overall, I recommend this movie to all fans of the superhero genre! I am eager to hear your thoughts on it. Happy Watching!
